PLACE
Every year, more than 500,000 TONS of clean wood are discarded from construction jobsites in Oregon alone. We are partnering with Sankofa Lumber to change that. Sankofa processes new construction wood waste into reusable, FSC Certified Recycled lumber and beautiful architectural panel products in Portland Oregon.   Wood scraps are remanufactured by a millwork shop, just south of Portland, creating jobs and supporting our local communities.

PURPOSE
Recycling and reusing wood waste is climate-smart, storing the embodied carbon when this wood is built back into buildings, and supports a network of small businesses in our region. SecondStory Architectural Panels can be used for wall cladding, casework, table tops, furniture, cabinetry, and more.  Reusing wood waste reduces greenhouse gas emissions and stores the embodied carbon in buildings instead of releasing it as it decays in landfills or when burned as boiler fuel. 

PEOPLE
Sankofa is a Minority Woman Owned Business, whose founder Valerie Carey has a mission to reduce waste, create local jobs and close the loop on a circular economy. She employs disenfranchised people to give them a leg up, providing training and mentorship, and the skills for a better future.

• 3/4" x 4' x 8' sheet goods
• OSB (recycled oriented strand board)  or PLY (recycled plywood)
• Unfinished, sanded to 150, square edges
• Can be stained or sealed with a variety of products for endless design possibilities
