Pacific Madrone or Madrona (Arbutus menziesii) is a unique evergreen hardwood, prized for its hardness, durability and rich color palette of burgundy, salmon, and warm cream.

"High quality lumber + High quality staff + Aligned values = No brainer for Tomfoolery Wood Co." -- Dan Deschenes  - Owner & Principle Designer at Tomfoolery Wood Co

PLACE
Pacific Madrone grows along the West Coast in forest openings from British Columbia to Southern California.  Ours is sourced from the Umpqua and Rogue Valleys of Oregon, where it grows well in the rich soils.

PURPOSE
Madrone logs are salvaged from the forest harvesting waste stream, where they are commonly just cut out of the way during Douglas fir logging and left in the forest or the slag pile.  Madrone makes an exceptionally durable flooring and its tight grain makes an excellent butcher block material . It is also a beautiful option for cabinetry and furniture.

PEOPLE
We partner with a local sawmill in Southern Oregon with experienced sawyers that understand the nature of Madrone. They take great care to cut, cure, and dry the lumber properly for a stable, workable wood species that Makers and Woodworkers seek out for its amazing character and color.
