It is not often that environmental groups plan timber sales, but that is exactly what happened in the Malheur National Forest of Central Oregon.
Among the trees chosen for removal by this collaborative group of government agencies, lumber companies, and non-profit organizations are standing dead Ponderosa Pines. Killed by either fire or beetles, these trees have become susceptible to a natural staining process that imparts a beautiful blue streaking throughout the wood. They are removed as part of a restoration program that is building fire resiliency and restoring old growth conditions in Eastern Oregon’s vast pine forests while also providing jobs in rural communities.
Our Blue Pine is produced by the Malheur Lumber Company, a long-time community member in the town of John Day, and one of the last wood products employers in this traditional timber town.
Blue Pine offers a very rustic look perfect for Western, French, beach, or cottage-style decor, complete with knots, veining, and bug holes.
